Meeting Minutes

 

Date of meeting – Thursday, October 11, 2007

 

Captain Beaver opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m.  Six parents were present including the Booster Club President and Secretary.

 

Discussion was held regarding the upcoming competition to be held in Destrehan, LA on Saturday, October 13, 2007.  It was decided that an ample amount of drinks were on hand for the cadets.  Fruit will be purchased and provided the morning of the competition.

 

Plans for the upcoming field trip to attend the Air Show at the Naval Air Base in Belle Chasse, LA were discussed.  The field trip will leave campus on Friday, October 26, 2007 and return that same day.  Cadets are required to meet specific criteria in order to attend the air show and have been repeatedly made aware of these requirements.  Commercial busses will be used for the field trip at a cost of $1500.  Authorized cadets are required to pay a fee of $10 per cadet prior to the busses leaving.  Parents are welcome to attend, with prior notification and approval by school, at a cost of $10 per person. 

 

Captain Beaver discussed the upcoming competition to be held at St. Amant High School on Saturday, November 3, 2007.  The competition will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the Academic Teams testing, then at 9:00 a.m. Personnel Inspections will begin and the day will end by 5:00 p.m.  Parental help is needed in the areas of concession sales, food preparation, administering academic tests and scoring.  Judges will meet in the early morning the day of the competition.  Cadets will be asked to help with setting up score sheets at the necessary tables, selling concessions and helping parents and teams where needed.  Concession monies will be handled only by parents!  The menu and details of the set-up were discussed as preparations must be made in advance.  Donations of pre-packaged snacks and other concession items were discussed.  **ALL PARENT JUDGES AND WORKERS ARE ASKED TO MEET AT SCHOOL ON FRIDY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 2, 2007 TO FINALIZE PLANS, DISTRIBUTE JOB DUTIES AND HELP SET UP FOR THE COMPETITION.

 

On Wednesday, November 7, 2007 there will be a Massing of Colors at Parkview Baptist Church.  Discussion was held regarding the Color Guard’s attendance at this event.  More information to come as firm plans are made.

 

Discussion was held regarding a proposed field trip for NS-2s to travel to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans on Wednesday, November 7, 2007.  NOTE – this trip may have to be rescheduled for Wednesday, November 14, 2007.  More information to come as firm plans are made.

 

Plans were finalized regarding a garage sale to be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007.  The garage sale will be held at J-Boy’s Snoballs located on Highway 42 in Prairieville/Galvez starting at 8:00 a.m.  Parents and cadets are asked to donate items for the sale (no clothes, please).  Profits from the garage sale will go to the Booster Club.  The menu was finalized for the meal to be sold at the garage sale and tickets will be prepared for pre-sales.  The menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert.  Cadets and parents are asked to help with the sale of tickets and with garage sale itself.

 

 

OTHER EVENTS:

 

Captain Beaver brought attention to the email address (troopswecare@apsb.org) where cadets, students and local residents can information on active duty military for Christmas care packages and letters of support to former St. Amant High School students/graduates.  Information has been forwarded to The Advocate for publication. Donations will be solicited from local businesses for use in the packages.

 

The Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas banquets were discussed.  The date of these event are tentative, but traditionally is held the week before Thanksgiving which will be the week of November 12 – 16, 2007.  More information to come.

 

The Booster Club President commented on the cleanup efforts of the cadets at The Pit and stated that it has been going well.  Discussion was held concerning the fee that will be charged to Holy Rosary Church for cleanup on their property.

 

A visit to the Azalea Retirement Home was discussed.  This was a big success last year and Cadet Joseph is attempting to set a date for this year’s visit.

 

A flag burning ceremony to be held on Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11, 2007 was discussed.  The VFW Hall in Gonzales will be contacted as they have offered the cadets access to their fire pit for this event.

 

The issue of medical forms for cadets was discussed.  Captain Beaver commented on how many cadets have not turned in their medical forms and also how many cadets do not have insurance coverage. 

 

The Booster Club President commended the cadets on their success at the recent competition held in Ponchatoula.  Congratulations to everyone!

 

A decision was made to hold the next Booster Club meeting on November 8, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.
