Minutes of
NJROTC Booster Club Meeting
October 12, 2006
Phyllis Roberts called the meeting to order and asked that we address old business.
A partial phone list was given to Melissa Ficklin from Adam Hannah. Melissa gave this list to Tenna Mouch to go over and make some phone calls to get more parent involvement.
The Saturday clean-up days will continue. Marie Parker told the members of the last clean-up day and what we need for the final two. Captain Beaver informed us that the little league football team would be there on October 21st. That is our next clean-up day. We need to be there before 7:15 am and the little league parents will probably help with the cleaning. Captain will get a list of volunteers together.
Captain will check into the grant money from Target. He did not have an opportunity to go any further with it, but will assign it to a cadet to take care of.
The complete competition schedule has been posted. The November competition has been cancelled. The Booster Club members tried to schedule a fundraiser for this month, but there is not enough time to put one together.
The next competition is scheduled for December 2nd at LW Higgins.
January 27, 2007 is St. Amant’s competition.
February 3, 2007 is Pensacola
February 17, 2007 is Pearl, MS
March 3, 2007 is Southern. (This is our National qualifying meet)
March 24, 2007 is Slidell
March 31, 2007 is Covington
Melanie Boudreaux sent a letter Marie had typed to the School Board. The letter asked that the Board address the problems with the ROTC buildings and include new buildings in next year’s budget. A maintenance worker was sent to speak with Captain. The mold on the ceiling and the other problems were looked at and maintenance will spray a sealant on the roof and replace the tiles and make as many repairs as possible, but no new building is being discussed. Melanie said she would continue to work on this and will send the letter to as many Board members as possible. Jay Patterson, the owner of Pit Stop, is willing to make a generous donation to NJROTC. Captain will get bids on a shed and get with Mr. Patterson to see what he is willing to donate. Any donation would be appreciated, but would not go toward building a new building.
There were several parents interested in purchasing wind suits. Red Stick Sports requested that we make one order instead of individual orders. He can offer a better price that way. Captain will post an order form on the web site for interested parents and cadets.
The adopt-a-road clean-up will have to wait until the spring because we have too many projects going on right now.
The Booster club decided on a fundraiser and a date. We will sell BBQ chicken quarters, baked beans, salad and dessert. We will sell them for $5.00 each. Melanie Boudreaux has several contacts for a pit and smoker and will help get everything together for this fundraiser. The date will be Friday, January 19, 2007. Every available cadet and parents will be needed to make this a success. We will try to have another fundraiser during lent.
We will try to get an email address list together. This may be a better way to keep in touch and reach more parents.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 pm.
