Minutes of
Booster Club Meeting
March 14, 2006

1.  Nominations of officers could not be conducted because current president St. Germain was not present.  There was some discussion about what the officer’s positions are and what could be expected of them.  Cap suggested that if someone is interested in a position, they should volunteer so that elections can be held at the next meeting.

2.  Cap gave us an update on the DC trip that took place last week and explained the Field Trip Program for cadets.  He explained how it was set up to work and what it takes for a cadet to be eligible to go on these field trips.  The objective is to reward the cadets that participate in the weekly inspections, Area 8 inspection, keep their grades up and set a good example in general.  These field trips are military related and/or historical, so that the cadets learn something as well as have a good time.  The breakdown of how the program is set up to work is as follows:

Freshman – 1 day trip (example: D Day Museum in New Orleans)

Sophomore & Junior – 1 to 2 day trip (possible overnight trip/example Biloxi Naval Base)

Senior – 1 to 5 days trip (example: D.C. trip)

3.  A parent present asked Cap what a military ball was when the discussion about it came up.  The military ball will be held Friday, April 28th in the commons area at STA.  Lauren, Amanda, Susan and Heather are the military ball committee.  They are in charge of getting quotes on catering, decorations, pictures, DJ, etc.  The parents present offered their assistance in any matters concerning the ball.  It is the committee’s responsibility to get assistance from the parents when needed.  Listed below is a general overview of what happens at the military ball as told by Cap.

CO Gele’ presides over the ball.  There is a full script for the night.  Parents that would like to attend are welcome in Sunday dress.  Parents will be required to pay for the cost of their meal.  Cadet’s cost for the ball will be from $5.00 - $10.00 per couple. The cadets need to be at the ball by 6:15 and a reception line starts between 6:30-6:45.  There will be honored quest there and Gele’ will make introductions.  The National Anthem will be played and Colors will be presented.  A dinner will be served buffet style.  Awards from outside organizations and speeches will be given.  Letters for jackets and other awards will also be given.  The court/king and queens for each grade will be presented and the ceremonial cutting of the cake will take place.

 4.  Field Day for the cadets will be the second Friday in May. (May 12th) Any cadet that has attended the Area 8 inspection, has NJROTC as a course this year and has participated in the weekly inspection is able to attend.  The cadets have a free day from classes.  There will be games and activities all day, volleyball and BBQ.

 5.  There is a competition in Slidell this weekend and if the teams do well, they may possibly go to a competition in Covington on April 1st.  The seniors have opted not to participate in that competition so that the underclassmen will get some experience.

 6.  Basic Leadership Training is in June and cost is $100.00 plus spending money.  There are limited positions available.  The camp is in Meridian Mississippi.  This camp is usually for freshman entering their sophomore year.  Leadership Academy is during the summer and is for upperclassmen.

 7.  There was some discussion on fundraisers and where the money goes.  Cap suggested the new officers create a schedule of fundraisers with goals to achieve, such as equipment purchases.

 8.  Lauren Henry and Amanda Miller spoke about the community service projects and the past recycle projects.

 9.  It was decided that the next meeting would be held on April 11, 2006, elections will be held and Phyliss Roberts will try to contact more parents to attend.  Phyliss was able to contact a few parents and there was a good turnout for this meeting.
